Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center Gives to 2009 Tom Landry Scholarship

In August 2009, the Southern Methodist University hosted the tenth annual Tom Landry Classic at its Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. More than 22,500 were in attendance to watch four of the top ten high school football teams in the country play to win the title. After games between the Southlake Carroll Dragons and the Plano West Wolves, and the Red Oak Hawks and the Highland Park Scots, the Southlake Carroll Dragons won the competition.
In addition to winning the title, event participants of the winning team are eligible to receive the Tom Landry Scholarship, including football players, student managers, student trainers, band members, cheerleaders and field performers. The team of Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center was proud to contribute to the scholarship, which awards college assistance to deserving high school seniors.
William Boothe, MD, and his team have participated in the scholarship for several years and have helped give more than $470,000 to students who demonstrate leadership, integrity, academics and community service. Dr. William Boothe Announces New LASIK Technology

Essentially there are two steps to performing LASIK surgery - the creation of the corneal flap and the ablation of the cornea’s surface to correct the refracrive error. Traditional LASIK calls for the use of a bladed instrument called a microkeratome to create the corneal flap. As technology has advanced, LASIK surgeons have moved away from using this bladed instrument in favor of laser technology called a femtosecond laser to create this flap. The use of this technology has resulted in safer, more precise corneal flap creation. With the use of the iFS femtosecond laser, Dr. Boothe is once again at the top of his field in providing Dallas LASIK patients with safer, more reliable treatments.
